Charles Harrison Rohrbaugh, Sr.


Charles Harrison Rohrbaugh, Sr., 87, of Moorefield, died Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Green Valley Commons in Winchester, VA.

Born June 12, 1933, in Moorefield, he was the son of the late John Washington and Nora Lee (Whitacre) Rohrbaugh, the former proprietors of Rohrbaugh’s Grocery. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Williams Rohrbaugh; one step-son; and three brothers and four sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In his youth, Charles was a gifted football player for Moorefield High School and was a member of the 1949 State Championship basketball team. Throughout his life, he was an avid fan and supporter of Yellow Jackets sports. A person of strong faith, he was a member of Old Fields Baptist Church and the West Virginia Grand Lodge AF&AM, Moorefield Lodge #29, also having served as both elder and deacon for Moorefield Presbyterian Church.

Charles retired from the U.S. Postal Service after years of dedicated service as a mail carrier, acting postmaster of the Moorefield Post Office, and finally as the postmaster of the Mail Processing Center and Post Office in Cumberland, MD. After his retirement, he worked as a funeral assistant for Elmore Funeral Home and projectionist for South Branch Cinema 6.

He is survived by his second wife, Willa D. Rohrbaugh; one daughter, Janet S. “Bunny” Kesner, Bunker Hill, WV; two sons, Charles H. Rohrbaugh, II (and wife, Lisa), Romney, WV; William F. Rohrbaugh (and fiancé, Lani Lizarda), Haymarket, VA; two step-daughters; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 3:00p.m. at the Olivet Cemetery, with Pastor Danny Sterns officiating.

Due to the current pandemic state of emergency, we ask that face coverings be worn and social distancing be practiced.
