Gary Dean Champ

 

Gary Dean Champ, 76, of Purgitsville, WV, died Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.

Born May 19, 1944, in Williamsport, WV, he was the son of the late Quinten Arthur and Bessie (Layton) Champ.

Gary was a carpenter for Local 1024 Carpenter’s Local and was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, farming, and most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cheryl Champ, two sons, Gary Champ, II and fiancé, Burdetta Pratt; William Champ and wife, Amber, both of Old Fields, WV; one sister, Judy Pratt and husband, Roger, Moorefield, WV; six brothers, Charles Champ and wife, Dot, Purgitsville; Carl Champ and wife, Nancy, Purgitsville; Roger Champ and wife Sheila, Moorefield; Jim Champ and wife, Sharon, Purgitsville; John Champ, Purgitsville; and Andrew Champ, Purgitsville; three grandchildren, Brandon, Chloe, and Zayden; and one great-granddaughter, Isabella.

A private graveside service will be held at the Lahmansville Cemetery with Pastor Vivan Watts officiating. Interment will follow.

Arrangements are under the direction of Elmore Funeral Home.
