James Preston "Shad" Cain

James Preston “Shad” Cain, 78, of Moorefield, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at his home.

Born February 20, 1943, in Moorefield, he was the son of the late Jake Preston “Ernest” Cain and Lucille (Taylor) Cain. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Herman, and Harold Cain.

In his early Years, he worked at the South Branch Stockyard. For many years he worked at Hester Industries and Pilgrim’s Pride and ended his career working for West Virginia Department of Highways in Moorefield. He was a member of the Rig Assembly of God Church, Rig, WV and the First Church of God in Christ, Moorefield, WV. In his leisure time, he enjoyed riding horses, hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Cain; one son, Jamaine Preston Cain, Winchester, VA; one step-son, Jeff Helmick, Moorefield; five sisters, Helen Brown; Hazel Cain; Nancy Kane, all of Pittsburgh, PA; Rose Kane and Annabelle Kane, both of New York; one brother, Tim Kane, Pittsburgh; five grand-daughters, Jamira Cain; Janessa Cain; Annabelle Cain; Aniah Cain; Marisol Cain; one grandson, Phoenix Cain; one step-grand-daughter, Amanda Helmick; one step-grandson, Jeffery Helmick; and one step-great-grand-daughter, Brooklyn Snezek.

Friends will be received at the Rig Assembly of God Church, 10 Queens Drive, Rig, WV on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Services will be conducted at the church on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Taylor and Pastor Henderson L. Wheeler, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Purgitsville.

Pall Bearers will be Lindell Heishman, Allen Mills, Chris Kesner, Steve Parker, Larry Funk, Danny Kesner, and Doug Funkhouser.

His arrangements are under the direction of Elmore Funeral Home, Moorefield.
