James William “Jim” Cole

James William “Jim” Cole, age 73, of Moorefield, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Born December 4, 1949, in Hardy County, WV, he was the son of the late Aaron Otis and Jenny Frances (Jones) Cole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

James served his country with the United States Navy and was a conductor for the railroad. He was a member of the VFW Post 9606 and the American Legion Post 64 and the Moose Lodge. In his younger days, he enjoyed dancing. He enjoyed helping out in the community and loved family reunions and get-togethers. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Kamikia Cole of Moorefield; two sons, Aaron Cole of Moorefield and Shane Cole and wife, Shawna, of Lahmansville; one sister, Jacqueline Russell of Moorefield; one brother, Ervin “Turk” Cole of Moorefield; a brother-in-law who he lived with and who helped take care of him, Roger Redman; a special niece who also cared for him, Ronnette Pope; ten grandchildren, Quenlynn, Quaylen, Quanaven, Qumaisa, Kreu, Daxtyn, Shyane, Evan, Cambrie, and Wrenley; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Elmore Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. time of service with Pastor Dan Sterns officiating. Burial will follow at Olivet Cemetery with military honors being accorded by local veteran’s organizations and the U.S. Navy.
