Ray Burns "Valentine" Bergdoll, Sr.

Ray Burns “Valentine” Bergdoll, Sr., 94, of Moorefield, WV, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at his home.

Born February 15, 1926, in Petersburg, WV, he was the son of the late George Edward and Hattie Rebecca (Shoemaker) Bergdoll. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Lee (Thorn) Bergdoll on April 4, 2003; five sisters; four brothers; a grand-daughter; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; and one special friend, Orpha Staffer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Ray worked for the Rockingham Poultry Plant in Moorefield as a laborer where he retired after 36 years (1952-1988). He was an avid gardener and was especially proud of his tomatoes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to auctions. He also enjoyed going to gospel concerts, going to church, and spending time with his friends at McDonalds and at the senior center.

He is survived by his six children, Janet Lee Hammond, Moorefield; Ray Burns Bergdoll, Jr., and wife Linda, Durgon, WV; Arnold Edward Bergdoll, Moorefield; Delores Kay Delawder and husband, Norman, Durgon; Jimmy Rogers Bergdoll and wife, Nancy, Durgon; Hank William Bergdoll and wife, Paula, Durgon; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Elmore Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ted Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the North Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Dorcas, WV.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the charity of your choice.

Due to the current pandemic situation, face masks will be required in the funeral home and social distancing practices must be observed.
