Proudly Serving the South Branch Valley Since 1969

Roger Dale Ours

Roger Dale Ours, 64, of Moorefield, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Born February 12, 1957, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Leon E. and Delphia (Crites) Ours. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lloyd Mongold, Sr.; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Mongold, Jr. and Mike Mongold; and one great-nephew, Luke Ours.

Roger was a great man of God, serving his God with all his heart. He loved his family fiercely and went out of his way to help others. He and his wife, Sharon were youth leaders to an amazing group of teens many years ago that are a testament of the love they sowed into this group. Many of those teens are in the ministry and many are faithful to God today. Not one to slack, Roger worked at whatever his hands found to do. He was always the first on the scene to give help where help was needed. Only eternity will reveal the many lives he sowed into and those he helped and witnessed to, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. He and Sharon were chaplains for ICM Ministries, serving faithfully. He was instrumental in bringing Chad Furlong to the area, igniting a fire in the teens lives with two of the group attending Master’s Commission in Hampton, VA. He and Sharon served alongside Steve and Joyce Schetrom and they became close and dear friends. He and his wife loved and supported Gerald Mayhan faithfully. His work career started as a young boy working on Pancake Farm in Old Fields. His last job was with Holtzman Propane, a job he enjoyed. It can truly be said that the world was a better place because Roger was a part of it. We will miss our loving husband, pappy, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. He was a member of the Overcomers Fellowship.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Mongold) Ours, who he married on February 16, 1980; two daughters, Amy Joynes, Winchester, VA; Amanda Stump, Moorefield; his mother-in-law, Goldie Mongold; two brothers, Charles Ours and wife, Linda, Old Fields; Hank Ours and wife, Sherry, Moorefield; three sisters, Kathy Whetzel and husband, Leroy; Barbara See and husband, Allen; Karen Riggleman and husband, Greg, all of Moorefield; two brothers-in-law, Chester Mongold and wife, Sandy; Gary Lee Mongold, both of Moorefield; one sister-in-law, Brenda Waterbury, Cumberland, MD; four grandchildren, Donovan Wilson; Marissa Wilson; Kira Tilley; and Ella Grace Stump; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved dearly.

Friends will be received at Elmore Funeral Home on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private family funeral and burial will be held at a later date.

Due to the current pandemic situation, masks are recommended for unvaccinated people.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sharon Ours, 435 Hamp Hyder Way, Moorefield, WV 26836.

His arrangements are under the direction of the Elmore Funeral Home.
